Patrick Coman is a man of the world. The Tulsa native spent the better part of the last few years living, writing and performing in Berlin before recently relocating to Boston. And judging by his debut EP, Used Records, his travels have served him well. His plainspoken and sometimes gruff delivery reveals the restless soul of a wandering minstrel, very much in the dusty-soled tradition of wayfaring strangers such as Gram Parsons, Steve Earle and Neil Young — all artists Coman counts as influences." -Dan Bolles, Seven Days (Burlington, VT) LISTEN

She moved to Seattle, Washington, in 1975 and has toured nationally since 1983. LISTEN

The Heath Sisters – Sarah Heath, Lucy McLellan and Peggy Ogilvy were raised in a family of classical musicians, but have been highly influenced by folk, jazz, world music and the singer songwriters of the seventies. Their singing has been described as “heartfelt, crystal clear…breathtaking.” Their multi-instrumental talent creates a concert that is full of variety and musical surprise not often heard in pop music, while their connection to an audience is direct and emotional.

Doors open at 7 PM – $10

Royal City Riot formed on Long Island in November 2006, in the wake of the break up of The Vagabonds, and featuring members of Spider Nick & The Maddogs, The Homecoming Queens, and Kickboxing Fury. Their musical style is a blend of soul, reggae, and ska, creating a sound that is both authentic and unique while still paying homage to the genres’ roots. LISTEN

Winners of the 2007 Cincinnati Entertainment Award for Best World Band, The Pinstripes don’t merely play Ska and Reggae — they inhabit the sound like it’s a ramshackle house that’s keeping them alive. Tight but never slick, fun but never goofy, intense but never serious, The Pinstripes combine Ska, Reggae, Dub and Soul to create something that’s genuinely lacking in a great deal of contemporary music: joy. LISTEN

Hey Stranger is a ska/punk band from NYC.  LISTEN

Blue Light District is a politically minded ska punk band formed in 2005 by high school students. After years of refining and changing, they have taken an original standpoint in the genre of Ska Punk by taking the influence from jazz, reggae, and ska and mixing them with with early west coast hardcore punk forming songs that are a culmination of aggression, skill, and purpose searching to motivate our stagnant culture towards a better tomorrow.  LISTEN

Sidewalk Dave (CD Release)

Doors open at 7 PM – $10

Aggressive Folk-Rock pours like sweat from the four members of Sidewalk Dave. Since 2007, they have conjured up a deep instinct for rebellious brotherhood together in the North East. Elise Granata of Fairfield County Weekly, Inkwell Press, and The Sound Magazine writes, "Over the past few years, approximately one zillion young musicians have put their own spin on a fusion of contemporary indie rock and American roots music. It's quite a trick to stand out from that pack. Sidewalk Dave does. The New Haven-area band's album Songs for Cowards was one of our favorite local releases of 2009 and holds its own amongst the work of their nationwide peers. Sidewalk Dave (a guy actually named Dave, plus his bandmates) plies raucous garage-country and folk rock with slow dynamic builds, genuinely thoughtful lyrics, and the spirit of someone young and eager who nonetheless has really lived"(Fairfield County Weekly). They have played with such similarly inspiring acts as Deer Tick, O’Death, Neva Dinova, Woods, De Nova Dahl, Danielson, Cotton Jones, Wye Oak, Mcarthy Trenching, and put out 2 full-length Albums. Mike Griffin

Doors open at 7:00 PM – $10

With pants patched and homemade jewelry attached, Lucas Carpenter demolishes the standards by delivering a new brand of eclectic pop, with lyrics to rival any artist in music today. “I’m confused…is it country?…is it soul?…” Lucas even has his fans baffled. Musically he throws into his blender anything he can get his hands on, from rock to hip-hop, folk to musical theater, creating a danceable cocktail of deliciousness you’ll be humming in the shower Monday morning. But don’t let his grooves fool you, beneath his hooks and hippy-sheik style lie poetry for the masses: sometimes serious, sometimes hilarious, but always honest. LISTEN

Corey Balsamo is an 18-year-old singer/songwriter from Long Island, NY. He picked up his first guitar around the age of ten. Influenced by John Mayer, Ryan Cabrera and Dave Mathews, he quickly turned his natural talents of singing, playing and lyricism to composition and performance. LISTEN

Dreamend

Doors open at 7 PM – $12 – Buy Tickets Now

The Appleseed Cast is an indie post-rock band based in Lawrence, Kansas, currently comprised of singer/guitarist Christopher Crisci, guitarist aaron pillar, bassist Nate Whitman and drummer John Momberg. The band’s predominately guitar-based music has gradually evolved in a relatively short space of time (arguably due to a combination of line-up changes and natural musical progression) from intense, heavy emo indebted to such acts as Mineral and Sunny Day Real Estate to a unique “post-rock” sound hinging on inventive, intricate drumming, subtle guitar arpeggios and impassioned vocals. For this special show they will be performing Low Level Owl I and II back-to-back, each in its entirety! LISTEN

Dreamend is the main musical output of Ryan Graveface, Graveface Records’ owner/sole employee and guitarist/bassist for psychedelic oddballs Black Moth Super Rainbow. The Thermals

Past Lives

The Coathangers

Doors open at 7 PM – $14 ($12 advance) – Buy Tickets Now

The Thermals brand of simple, catchy, snotty punk-pop sounds all sweaty and covered in lint and crumbs and broken glass and whatever else was all over their practice space floor. And while the sound is still appropriately raw and in your face, there is definitely more of a pop to punk ratio. Although for every lilting melody and sugary sweet hook, the Thermals stomp it to bits within minutes. Lots of folks here think that this is what the Mountain Goats would sound like all drugged up and punk rock supercharged, with the vocalist's nerdy whine, sung/spoken delivery and oblique wordy lyrics. Imagine the simple jangle pop of the Strokes, the skewed take on classic Beatlesque songwriting of Guided By Voices, the three chord stomp of the Ramones and add lots of packed basement, broken down van, DIY and punk rock snarl and you've got The Thermals! LISTEN

Past Lives - The band got their start in late 2007 after the breakup of The Blood Brothers. Vocalist Jordan Blilie, bassist Morgan Henderson, and drummer Mark Gajadhar joined with former Blood Brothers guitarist Devin Welch and started working on their debut EP almost immediately. Strange Symmetry was released on August 4, 2008 through Suicide Squeeze. It was initially a digital-only release with a limited run of physical CDs, but was later made more widely available on CD and vinyl. LISTEN

The Coathangers are newcomers to Atlanta's vibrant punk, pop and experimental music scene, but the group has risen quickly through the ranks to become one of the city s most talked about acts. Since July of 2006 Julia Kugel (guitar/vocals), Stephanie Luke (drums/vocals), Candice Jones (keyboard/vocals) and Meredith Franco (bass/vocals) have hammered out a bat cave crunk-punk dirge that explodes with energy and creativity. Don't be fooled by playful early song titles, like Nestle In My Boobies and Don't Touch My Shit. These women are real deal feminists, armed with a brash and irreverent sense of humor. They're more likely to be caught cracking jokes with Andrew W.K. than sharing tea and vegan cookies with Kathleen Hannah's crew. Simply put The Coathangers get the party started. They say what they want to say, do what they want to do, and they write songs because they want to have fun. Imagine if you will a marriage of the Beastie Boys circa Some Old Bullshit and the Slits when they were still a punk band and you're in the right ballpark. LISTEN

Generationals

Doors open at 7:00 PM – $10

The two men behind the creation of Generationals – Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer – don’t know what they’ve done. They couldn’t possibly have that sort of clairvoyance to perceive the effect that one of the songs they wrote has had on the few and will have on the many before the year is up. The song in question – “When They Fight They Fight” – is a HIT recording the likes of which summers cream for, the likes of which makes everyone go a little woozy and a lot bananas. It’s the sunlight accentuated. It’s a pulsing, slow-drip of Motown bass and slinky guitar, melded with plenty of sing-a-long moments and the most perfect set of pop lyrics about fighting and what seems to be unconditional love through the thicks and thins. But “Con Law,” the debut full-length from this New Orleans-based band doesn’t stop there.LISTEN

After years of spilling out every kind of emotion imaginable between themselves and (sometimes unnecessarily) onto others, it only made sense to manifest these feelings through the only acceptable medium they knew how, music. Kafei grew from the connection between Alex, Doug, and Eric and not the other way around. Their first album, "Making Friends is Easy", drew on themes inseparable from their lives at the time. The music relies on heavily-melodic foundations, disbanding the idea of compartmentalizing instruments, and rather creating a wash of collective sound, humbling themselves to the sheer beauty of a simple melodic line. LISTEN

For Atlanta's THE STATUS, there's a dose of that, but from the sound of their Doghouse Records debut SO THIS IS PROGRESS (release date: October 7, 2008), the unmistakable sound of confidence flows freely. While a tiny fraction of their strength may lie in who they know (Adam Lazzarra of Taking Back Sunday and Anthony Raneri of Bayside lend their backing vocals to two songs), 99% of their determination lies in their tightly-wound, hyper-melodic pop rock that has already spawned a radio hit in their single "Perfect Day" on Atlanta's influential station 99x. "That song set the tone for what we wanted to do as a band," says vocalist/guitarist Ben Grant. "It's about taking that chance on love, or just life in general because the risk is worth more than the not knowing." LISTEN
